Code of Ethics

My National Association for the Education of Young Children NAEYC Code of Ethics I relate to

I-1.1—To be familiar with the knowledge base of early childhood are and education and to stay informed through continuing education and training. This one is important because as one the presenters in our resources stated that continuing to gain knowledge is a sign of professionalism. There is always something new to learn, I always say when you stop learning you stop growing.

P-1.2—We shall care for and educate children in positive emotional and social environments that are cognitively stimulating and that support each child’s culture, language, ethnicity, and family structure. Being a multicultural educator is another professional teaching goal that I have; children come in all shapes, forms, and fashions, which makes them uniquely different.

I-2.2—To develop relationships of mutual trust and create partnerships with the families we serve. One of my professional goals is to create an environment where families can come and receive high quality care for their children and where they will become grade school ready.

My Division for Early Childhood (DEC) ethics I relate to are:
We shall demonstrate the highest standards of personal integrity, truthfulness, and honesty in all our professional activities in order to inspire the trust and confidence of the children and families and of those with whom we work. This one is important because without integrity you cannot build a foundation that will be solid. Therefore without a solid foundation you cannot be a support for the families you serve or be the children’s advocate. Having to stand up and right a wrong will take integrity and honest from within.

We shall honor and respect the rights, knowledge, and skills of the multidisciplinary colleagues with whom we work recognizing their unique contributions to children, families, and the field of early childhood special education. Like Ms. Starks said being a professional means recognizing that everyone does not always have your same perspective as you , and being able to embrace the other persons way sometimes.

We shall support professionals new to the field by mentoring them in the practice of evidence and ethically based services.  I feel that it is important for people in any profession to have a mentor when they are entering a field. Being able to listen and use someone with wisdom as a sounding board in your profession is a great personal resource.

  1. Hi,
I love you choices. I totally agree with you that there is always something new to learn. Although I currently work with children I feel as though it is very important to continue to gain as much knowledge as possible to continue to provide quality care and education to the children in my program. I also like the statement about supporting professionals new to the field. I love to mentor new childcare owners and directors and give them tools and knowledge that will hopefully help them to be successful in the future.

    1. I like the codes of ethnics you chosen because it is very important to develop and positive relationship with the parents who children we are teaching. It is also important that we as educators remain professional along with maintaining positive relationship among each other as well. In order to provide our students with the opportunity to receive a good education.

  2. Angelika,
The ideal you choose I-2.2—To develop relationships of mutual trust and create partnerships with the families we serve, is a very admireable one. It is so important to build trust and partnership with your families. Some of the families that are in our center have been there since their children were infants. The staff has created a mutual trust and that is why the families have stayed so long.
    Best of Luck to you,
    Diana
