Consequences of Stress on Children's Development

Relocating can be a stressor for children, moving to new environment and having to make new friends. This is something that I had to overcome in my childhood. It affected cognitively because I was always wondering of what would happen, how things would turn out. I related this to children who are of Middle Eastern Decent, and the anxiety they possibly feel after the mentality of Americans changed after September 11th. However Derman and her colleagues discussed how children are aware of racial  and cultural differences but do not necessarily understand them. The people around them and their environment shapes their opinion thought process.

The Media
 ~ Showed pictures of people of Middle Eastern decent and talked about the bad things they did

 The Home
 ~ Parents might have made comments that was a generalizations of that particular race

Middle Eastern Families
  ~ Experiencing being blamed for actions taken by people of their same ethnicity and in return making a generalization of Americans

These children who lived through September 11th had a lot of emotional fears those of Middle Eastern decent and American children.  They both had to worry what the people they came in  contact with on a daily basis might do to them. Although when children are put together they will typically paly without any qualms, however when they have been TAUGHT to so prejuidece to a group of people things will not prevail the same.

Child Development & Public Health Blog

Breastfeeding is an initiative that has become semi-popular in the U.S. Although we are known to have one of the lowest rates in the industrialized world,  along with China.  Now within the last few years U.S. has improved its rankings.  Due to education on the form of nutrition and for mother's I've asked economy wise has been as reason it has improved as well.

The benefits                        The downside
*  healthy for infant.                * all are not able to do so
* cost effective.                       * not able to be created
* immunity                               * mother's diet is strict
* growth & development

When I do have children I would like to breastfeed my children.  Hopefully I will be able to do so. Because of the complications with baby formula that have arisen and its production process causing companies to recall several quantities. In China it was a big fiasco with residents purchasing formula to the efforts it was looked at as smuggling.  Because large quantities were recalled from a manufacturer located in New Zealand that supplies most of China's formula.

The Birthing Process

Well at this current time I have yet to experience the birthing process. Unfortunately, I do not recall my own birth although the one detail I been told is that I was born prematurely and that my parent's had to leave me there for a about a two week span. I know that child birth can have an effect on child's develop especially with birth defects.  The first months of a child’s birth are critical for forming bonds.

The traditional American birth is with some type medical professional onsite. In the South African Bushmen tribe they believe that how you carry yourself during pregnancy has profound effect on baby. They even have young girls watch women giving birth to see what to except. They have been known to experience infant mortality and normal birthed babies with this practice. They look at how the pregnancy goes versus American the pregnancy stages and the birthing process. I can say for myself personally that I will be in a hospital setting with medical professional surrounding me!
