When I Think of Research...

This course has enlightened me about research in numerous ways. One is how to formulate and devise a research design. I always had the notion that research was something you found in a book. But through this course I have found that research is conducting the study and finding resources that support your ideas of your topic.  While discovering different ways research happens I learned ways to determine the validity of sources used like websites and articles.  By examining authors and what ideas their content shares. My attitude towards research has changed in my thinking that it is a tedious process that only benefits the researchers.  But with the choice of topics you can research findings beneficial to participants and not harmful to their current states like people in poverty, or people who are ill. Assessing the risk and benefit factors of study is one of the biggest factors of research that I have learned when planning, designing, and conducting research for especially young children. My challenge in doing a research simulation was relatively close to this issue I was interested in the effects of poverty on children but wanted to determine this by not inflicting anymore despair. So as we continued on the lessons I continued to revise and settled on the perfect study to measure its effect on children.

  1. Angelika,
I appreciate your post. I found that researchers have a big job as they conduct their research subjects. Finding the right method is hard work.

  2. I am glad that you were able to devise the right way to measure what you were studying. The further I went along in the class the more I realized that I really didn't have the right idea on how to go about gaining the information I wanted. My thinking had to be revised Several times even though I thought I knew exactly what I wanted to do in the beginning and I think that even now it still needs tweaking! Thank you for sharing your journey.

  3. Angelika,

I must admit that this has been my most challenging course yet here at Walden. I have however, enjoyed it and look forward to continuing the research process. Best of luck in your future courses.
