I can recall a situation in which someone advocated for someone else in an indirect manner. I was her employee and a family friend and worked in her child care center during the summertime when I was in high school. She use to work with parents who were in need. I saw her provide food for families, help families with clothes. She also introduced parents to the resources they needed for their families. She was the example of an advocate but was not necessarily aware of her self being an advocate for families. I remember when I first felt compelled to advocate was when I first saw her helping the family by providing clothes for one of their children. It was a realization that others in the world need assistance and in this profession of education I would be in the perfect position to do this for families and children. If I could provide them with a little assistance and then in return make changes to implementation processes that affect families. This is why this program will help on this path of changing laws and informing those who make laws about the reality that these families are dealing with in their lives. This is now the biggest reason I feel children and families experiencing adverse life experiences are paying the price and are limited by some of the laws created. Also educators have the same experiences when it comes to rules and regulations that are created by individuals that have no barring about education or every worked in education and understand its dynamics.
Society in America are very quick to judge a book by its cover but does not want to take the time to read the chapters in the book to be informed of the plot. Providing assistance to children and families especially in the communities we live in will demonstrate that people do care in society.
