Practicing Awareness of Microaggression

The microaggressions I observed was from my Preacher's viewpoint. My preacher said he was talking with his neighbor who asked him is they had experience multiple deaths in their family lately.  His neighbor asked him this because of the number of visiting cars at his home in the last few months. He stated that he was taken aback by the comment at first and didn't understand what she meant. But it was funny in the day then she asked he had actually had a death in his family but the company that was before earlier was just that of social gatherings. His neighbor is of Caucasian descent it is an older lady. In the African American culture when someone dies the family typically gathers at a family member's house n bring food. And so that would explain the abundance of cars at his home. We all had a social gathering at his home recently and he made the comment of I wonder what she thinks is going on today. His neighbor made an assumption because of his race and the incident was supposed to take place because appeared situation. Fortunately this was not a highly disrespectful form of microaggression.

  1. Angelika,
Good observation, I would have never looked at this as a microaggression. In the Latino community we have the same customs. Thanks for sharing and I will definitely watch my words.
